squares

It happen to me all the time.....when I don't have a clue on what pattern to use..... I always end up making squares.
It must be my favorite figure! I think because a square is nice and simple and has four equal sides. And by using different colours and fabrics all kind of patterns can be made. Plus it's easy to sew, no difficult curves.
So guess what pattern I use for the cribquilt???
The fabric with the roses comes from Biggiebest and was also used to make the curtains from.

This is the old cribquilt from my daughter. It seems that even back then I already developed a soft spot for squares! I had the whole babyroom decorated in Laura Ashley. I was a big fan of all their fabric and wallpapers.

I'm curious, what is your favorite shape/ figure to use in quilts? I'll bet we all have one!
DD is checking up on me every now and then to see how much the cribquilt is progressing.....so I better get back behind the sewingmachine!

I love how the 2 quilts are similar yet obviously different due to the age/trend of the fabrics. I'm also a sucker for squares, I keep meaning to try different things, but if I ever need to whip up a quilt, it's almost always in squares!

I have to claim squares too. I like ot play with fabrics & colors not complicated piecing.

Are there still BiggieBest stores in Holland? I thought they closed.

I don't really have a favorite block to quilt. I think my favorite is what I am doing at the moment. I think that is good as it means I am enjoying what I make. I like trying too many things to have one favorite. Right now I am doing a medallion quilt project for the quilt group that I have in my home and it is everyone's favorite as it is such a special and personal quilt. They work according to my assignments. This week they get the last assignment. We will all be sad to say farewell to this project when it is completed.

I can't wait to see the crib quilt finished. The fabrics are so pretty.

Hugs ~
Heidi

Both of these are beautiful! We used to have a Laura Ashley store here. It was fun to go in and just look at all her fabrics. I'm actually starting to embrace triangles...never thought I'd say that.

Love your quilt! Looks so light and airy and summery. I do mostly hand applique. So don't have a favorite. When I do piece by machine I think I, too like squares best as they are easy to sew together!

This quilt will be another wonderful one!
Up to now I love squares. Nothing wrong with a good square quilt. You can play with the colours and fabrics. I also love the look of half- and quarter squares combined with white and I love logcabin quilts with lots of colours.

The quilt is lovely already!
I like strips in a quilt, or log cabin.

I love squares too - or triangles, or stripes. Anything that is simple to cut out, and really allows the beauty of the fabric and the combination of fabric to show through

So nice to have you back in blogland! I have a weakness for the common 9-patch. It is just so simple & always looks great I think.

I confess I am a square fan too. Simple with multiple effects.

I love squares too- they make such a beautiful pattern when laid out like you have done. That fabric is so fresh looking! I wish I could hand quilt like you, we will be machine quilting ours. We'll see who gets done first!

Squares! Looked at my quilts and other small items. I have several nine patch things, bags made with squares, pillows with squares...so guess squares it is!

Both the new crib quilt you are making and the old crib quilt from your DD are beautiful!

I'm glad you are back on your blog, as I love reading it.
I never thought about a favorite shape, so I don't know what to answer. I'll think about it.

So good to see you back again. I've missed you.

My favourite quilt is one I have finished! I'm not advanced enough to have progressed beyond squares and strips!!

My first favourite shape was the rectangle. Now as I work through the other shapes, one at a time which could last quite long I actually discovered I love them all with their different possibilities. I did a sort of trip around ..... and I was very fond of it. The roses fabric is simply delicious.
